Phil Ivey, a world-renowned poker player who has been in dispute with the London casino Crockford Club since August 2012 when he won £7.8 million by playing a version of the baccarat called Puntobanko, was granted an appeal by the Supreme Court of the United States on Nov. 3, 2016. The Supreme Court is Britain's highest court of appeal for civil cases, which only hears cases that raise the importance of the general public.
Commenting on the announcement, 40-year-old Phil Ivey said, "The Court of Appeals ruling last November didn't make sense to me. The original judge ruled that I was dishonest and none of the three Court of Appeals agreed, but the decision went against me by a 2-1 majority. I'm very happy that the Supreme Court granted me permission to fight for what I believed was truly the right thing to do in my situation and for the whole game industry. I look forward to the Supreme Court overturning its decision against me." 바카라사이트 순위
Phil Ivey is represented by Richard Spearman QC and Max Mallin QC of Thirty Nine Essex Chambers and Wilberforce Chambers respectively and Matthew Dowd of Archerfield Partners LLP.
Matthew Dowd said, "Phil and his legal team are delighted that the justices of the Supreme Court have decided that the Court of Appeals' decision should be reviewed. The Court of Appeals ruling has completely obscured the interpretation of Section 42 of the Gambling Act, and the decision to grant an appeal shows that the Supreme Court agrees with that view."
